誠如王院長所說，求學的時間是相當寶貴的。寶貴的原因不是在於取得文憑或學歷，而是在於獲得知識的力量和辯證思考的能力。這些能力，對每個人來說都相當重要。未來不管是從事各行各業，都必須具備專業知識和思考創新的能力，這也正是學校教育的價值所在。所以，如果因為家境不好必須打工，越是辛苦，就越要懂得安排時間、努力學習，才不會像王院長所說，白白浪費了寶貴的時間。只不過，還有更多重要的能力，是學校沒辦法教給大家的。
其實，打工的價值遠遠不只是金錢的報酬而已，像是利用打工就有機會學習溝通的能力和服務的精神。學生時代的打工，一般都是到餐廳當服務生、或是到加油站幫忙加油等等。在這些場合，我們要面對的顧客或同事，可以說是三教九流甚麼人都有。要如何和不同個性、階層與背景的人溝通，以及如何提供服務及傾聽顧客的需求，都是在單純的校園環境中所無法體會，也學習不到的課程。所以如果能抱著學習的態度打工，不僅可以賺錢，還可以學到更多學校不會教的社會經驗。
但是，如果孩子會因為打工就荒廢學業，是不是因為打工的樂趣和成就感，勝過在學校的學習呢？若真是如此，該檢討的不應該是去打工的孩子，而是我們這些經營學校學習環境的老師，該好好自我反省啊！
